Trust the Travel With Kidz family with your family travel!

Vanuatu Firsthand

by Jo Bush from TWK Head Office

Travel With Kidz prides itself on knowing the family friendly hotels. I had the pleasure of experiencing Vanuatu through the eyes of a mother and a Travel With Kids agent. I would love to tell you all about this experience.

What I found particularly appealing for families when visiting Vanuatu is that everything is 'just down the road' so when you land you know you are only just a 10 – 15 min transfer ride to your holiday destination, or just a 5 min taxi ride to the local pharmacy or supermarket.

The locals, called Ni-Vanuatu (meaning warm and friendly) certainly lived up to their name, particularly towards children, they showed appreciation and understanding and the service provided throughout my stay was always with a smile and very attentive. Nothing was ever a problem.

The Warwick Le Legon Resort & Spa is the ultimate resort for families. Located just 8km from the airport, however when you arrive you are surrounded by lush tropical gardens and beautiful emerald coloured water and the village has a Melanesian feel about it..The kids club was amazing, a huge outdoor – indoor playground to suits all ages. The kids club is free for children between 3 – 12yrs and is open from 8am – till 10pm everyday (closed from 4.30pm – 5.30pm). Children 13yrs and under receive complimentary meals. Kids are offered a wide choice of fun activities like swimming, beach games, arts and crafts, bonfires, grass skirt making, T-shirt painting, coconut harvesting and many more. If the children would like to spend family time at the pool, there are 3 pools to choose from along with many family friendly accommodation options.

If you are a family keen to experience a holiday with your children outside of a major resort than Eratap Beach Resort is an ideal option. The beach resort provides the perfect place for children to explore the natural and cultural wonders of a tropical island. The resort welcomes families with children aged 5 and over during the following periods: 1 April to 30 April, 16 June to 31 July, 16 September to 31 October, 1 December to 31 January. During these periods the resort provides daily kids activities which primarily focus on providing your child with an experience aligned with the environment they are holidaying in. Eratap has four two bedroom villas ideally suited for families.

These villas have two separate bedrooms each with ensuite bathrooms. The master bedroom also has an outdoor shower courtyard and there is a separate lounge room with private deck. Each bedroom is air conditioned, the master bedroom has a king sized bed and the second bedroom can be set up as two single beds or one king sized bed.

If you are watching the budget I highly recommend Poppy’s on the Lagoon Beach. It has beautiful lush gardens and it has a great home away from home feel about it. There are 2 bedroom Suites and 3-bedroom Villas which are a perfect base for families of all sizes, with all the facilities of home combined with the feeling of holidaying in a resort. Having your own kitchen facilities provides the convenience of being able to feed everyone at all times, whilst the on-site cafe means no pressure when you just feel like taking it easy. The Poppys family area is right by the beach, and next to the family pool.. Kids can be swimming and splashing about in the pool, learning to kayak in the safe waters of Erakor Lagoon, building sandcastles on their own private white sand beach and making new friends with the other kids staying at the resort.

A 'must do' activity however not for the faint hearted is a visit to the Mele Cascades, which are beautiful waterfalls that you literally climb up yourself with the aid of a rope at some points of the climb. A guide will lead you up to the falls and along the way ensure you take time to have a swim in the pools. When you reach the top and have taken a much deserved break enjoy a refreshing swim before taking in the magnificent scenery.
